Have you tried the Storywalk?

A Storywalk is a great way to enjoy a children’s picture book and walk outside.  Start at the post near the front steps of the building to begin the book and move from station to station around the property to complete the story.

Many thanks to TEI Landmark Audio and the Mignon Sherwood DeLano Foundation for funding this project.

There is a Scavenger Hunt around the library every month at Henika. Just head to the circulation desk for a Scavenger Hunt sheet, and vetnure your way through the library. When you've completed your hunt, bring your finished sheet back to the circulation desk for a prize!

New Scavenger Hunts begin the first of the month.

1000 Books Before Kindergarten

The image promotes the initiative "1000 Books Before Kindergarten," encouraging reading to young children.

Reading together starts long before kindergarten! Henika District Library is proud to offer the 1000 Books Before Kindergarten program, a fun and rewarding way for families to build early literacy skills and create lifelong readers. Children can even join starting in infancy! Every book counts, whether it’s read at bedtime, during storytime, or over and over again with a favorite picture book.

Getting started is easy! Families can stop by the library anytime to pick up their reading sheets and begin tracking books. Along the way, children can celebrate milestones, earn small rewards, and build confidence as they move closer to 1,000 books before starting school.

Reading just one or two books a day can make a huge difference in a child’s vocabulary, imagination, and love of learning.
